Roll Out the Red Carpet

Furr-iends! Kitties! Anipals!

It is with mixed feelings great pleasure that We announce the Official Adoption of Shimshon the Mighty (aka Shimshi) to Our Happy Family. From today, this is his Furever Home.

Yes, it's O-fish-ull.

Shimshi is now a J-Cat.

I have to tell you that Caspurr is taking his duties as a Big Brofur furry, furry seriously! He has been teaching Shimshi the secrets of wrestling - at which Shimshi has proved himself a fast learner.

Naturally, I myself am snoopervising, as this is Caspurr's fursst teaching assignment. I am keeping a close watch on what goes on and drawing Mummy's attention whenever the Boys get too boisterous (mol).

I have to make certain that Shimshi also learns the impawtance of taking a Nap between each activity. Sometime, furry little kitties are apt to forget this.

I am still rather stressed by this new turn of events and it isn't made any easier by Mummy getting upset just because I peed on the sofa and on the bed once or twice. I didn't mean to pee on her too, it just happened...

However, to get back to Shimshi - as Alpha Cat and Queen of this Household (as well as of all Jerusalem, Israel and the entire Middle East), I have decided to be gracious and to throw a Welcome Pawty for the newest J-Cat tomorrow afternoon (Shabbat) at 6pm Israel time. It is furry, furry hot, so there will be cooling Catmint Juleps, micecream and other such treats, suitable for such weather.

We are looking forward to seeing you all.

Shabbat Shalom!

In the Twinkling of an Eye

Hallo, Effurrybody!

It is I, Trixie the Splendiferous. It falls to Me to keep all our anipals posted about what is going on in Our House. Caspurr is too busy playing with Intruder Kitty Shimshi.

Kitties, I am furry, furry concerned about developments on that front. Caspurr and the new kitty are getting along fine, but the Silly Baby seems to prefurr Caspurr's company to mine. Kitties, I just know Shimshi is going to be a furry BIG mancat when he grows up - you can tell by the size of his paws - and I'm afraid he and Caspurr will start ganging up on Me. It's bad enough now, with just Caspurr to deal with. As I have mentioned before, effurry time I find myself a comfortable perch and make it my own, Caspurr comes along and pushes Me aside. I was nice to him when he was a little baby kitten and I taught him effurrything I knew about Cathood, and look how he has repaid Me! Now I'm afraid it's going to be the same story with Shimshi and I'll find Myself pushed around and bullied by both of them!

But I won't think about that now. I am going to concentrate on Happy Things! Kitties, tonight is a special night. It's the festival of Shavuot. Mummy told Us that there is a legend about the night of Shavuot. At midnight, for just a split second, the heavens part and you can see the Great Cat in the Sky and all his angels. And then you can make a wish and the Great Cat in the Sky will grant your heart's desire. But you have to be quick. If you blink, you might miss it. It's all over in the twinkling of an eye. Mummy thinks that's why, year after year, she has stayed awake, hoping to see the Miracle, but she has never succeeded in doing so.

But We Cats have a distinct advantage over Humans in that area, don't We, kitties? Who is better equipped to sit and stare at the sky for ages, without blinking?

Chag Sameach (Happy Holiday) to you all!

A Hostile Takeover

Hallo, Effurrybody!

It's really too much! Indeed, it is! I was very patient with the Intruder my Little Brofur, because Mummy asked Me to be nice to him, but things have gone too far. I can't even call My Home my own any more. He doesn't respect My Territory, and everytime I withdraw somewhere else, he follows Me. He seems to be Taking Over everywhere!

First it was his impudent use of MY food bowl.  Then it was MY Private Bathroom. Yes, kitties, Mummy arranged for us to have separate bathrooms, so as to be able to shut him on the balcony overnight, or when she went out of the house, and thus keep us apart when she wasn't there to snoopervise. But he keeps using the Ladycat facilities, instead of those intended for Gentleman Cats!!!

Things have been going from Bad to Worse. Yesterday, he monopolized Mummy by curling up and going to sleep in her lap. And She thought he was So-o-o-o Cute, She took dozens of pictures of him!

Today, he invaded My Favourite Snoozing Spot, under Mummy's bed. See for yourselves, if you don't believe Me!

And a few minutes ago, came the Final Straw, kitties! Of all my toys, My Very Favouritest (in fact, the Only one that I like to play with) is my Blue Rabbit. But he didn't leave me even that!
Just look at him!

Mummy intervened at that point and took it from him and gave it back to Me, but it smelled of Little Brofur and I didn't want it anymore.

Now I have NOTHING left that I can call My Own, kitties! It won't be long before Mummy stops shutting him on the balcony overnight and then he'll be stealing my place on Mummy's bed - my Last Refuge. I can't even take myself off to my Second Favourite Place - the Computer Room - because Mummy shuts the door there whenever she's not using it, to prevent Me from climbing the bookshelves.

What is left for Me, Kitties??? What am I to do? I thought it would be fun to have another kitty to play with, but this is TOO MUCH!!!!!

Enter the Black Panther

Just as I did when my beloved Minxie - my very first furbaby - crossed the Bridge, I took myself and my broken heart off for a brief vacation. When I came back the last time, way back in 1995, Possum was waiting for me. This time, I came back to an empty house (I can hardly call it a home) and realised that I couldn't bear it any longer. Maybe three weeks is too short a time, and insufficiently respectful of Possum's memory. I still have sudden attacks of tears when I think of him and Pixie. Nevertheless, on Sunday, I took the plunge and picked up the phone to the vet, Dr. Einat, to ask if she knew of any kitties who were looking for a forever home. And that is how, on Monday evening, a little black panther entered my life.

Her foster Mum, Barbara, found her under a dumpster about three months ago (she's a bit hazy about dates). We think she's about three and a half to four months old. Barbara had named her Schmendrick. Well, I'm sorry, but I think that's very insulting and no cat of mine is going to be burdened with a name like that! It didn't take me all that long to choose a name for her. Since she's full of tricks, I thought Trixie would suit her much better. Of course, it's not her real name. As everyone who knows cats is aware, each cat has no less than THREE names, only one of which is known to his or her Human. But Trixie will do nicely for this little black panther.

It soon transpired that, if I want to get any sleep at night, Trixie is going to have to be shut out of the bedroom - at least until she outgrows the desire to pounce on my feet every few minutes. Pixie used to do that too. Another trait she and Pixie share is the habit of hiding under the bed, in the very farthest corner - although even Pixie never hid under the sofa, and I can't imagine how she manages to crawl in there, it's so low. All in all, I think it must have been Pixie, rather than Possum, who chose her and sent her to me.

The first day she spent with me, I was worried because she didn't seem to be eating. But I discovered she prefers to eat in the evening and at night - and that, when she does, she has a voracious appetite. I don't understand why, however, with all the food I give her, she is apparently eating earth from the flowerpots of my houseplants!!! If anyone has any ideas about that, I'd really like some answers.

She's now trying to climb onto the keyboard, so I will leave you with the first photo I took of her and then go and play with her.

Thirty Days

Greetings, Fellow Felines (and C-a-n-i-n-e-s and Humans)!

Tomorrow will mark the thirtieth day since Pixie flew off to the Bridge. I have been thinking about Mummy's idea of getting a new little kitty to keep Me company. She thinks a very young kitty would be best. I suppose there's something in that. She says I could teach a little kitten proper feline ways. That's true. A little kitty would know who's Boss around here and show Me due respect (I would hope). But, on the other hand, a little kitten would want to be running about and playing all the time and maybe I wouldn't be able to keep up. I'm a very senior feline now, after all, and what I enjoy most is curling up next to Mummy and sleeping. A little kitten would be ever so playful and cute - and maybe Mummy would start to love the new furbaby more than me, because he or she would be more fun.

But then again, being such a very senior kitty, maybe I should be thinking about the time when I'm no longer here. If there were to be a new little kitten, chosen by Pixie and properly trained by Me, then when the time comes and Pixie whispers in my ear that it's time for me to join her at the Bridge, I could go knowing that Mummy would be properly cared for.

But - if she has a new furbaby, maybe, after I, too, leave for the Bridge, Mummy won't think about me at all?!

No, no, impossible...

Oh, kitties, I am so very confused. I don't know what to do. Does Mummy want a new kitty for Me - or for Her?
