Shimshi's EPIDEMIC Selfie and Caturday Art

Greetings, Effurrybuddies!

We wish you all Shavua Tov (a Good Week), but there is no denying that this is a furry worrying time for all of Us, with this horrid Corona virus thingie spreading all over the World.  We don't know if kitties can catch it, but We have heard that it originally spread from animals, so maybe it can also spread BACK!?

Here in Israel, it is not as bad as in some other places, but We do have about 200 people who are sick and nobody knows how many more are walking around carrying the virus, without showing symptoms. We are not yet in complete lockdown, as in Italy, or Spain, but the government has banned gatherings of more than 10 people in any one closed space, and ordered the closure of schools and places of entertainment, including cafes and bars, in order to slow down the rate of contagion.  People have also been advised to keep travel on public transport to a minimum.
On the bright side - that means that Our Humans will be at home and able to spend more time ministering to Us (mol).

My fursibs and I want to do our bit, and so here am I, the Mighty Shimshon (Shimshi for short) a.k.a. The Little Purrince, Guardian of the Queen's Mischiefs and Captain of the Guard, on the lookout for any stray viruses that might be lurking in Our Palace. We don't actually know what a Virus looks like, and Mummy says they are too tiny to be seen without a Miaow-crow-scope, but We are going to try, anyway!

This picture, in which I, the Captain of the Guard, am furry alert, and leading the Palace Patrol, is Our Entry in the Sunday Selfies blog hop hosted by the Kitties Blue and their HuMom, Janet.

In addition, We are (belatedly) joining the Caturday Art blog hop hosted by the beauteous and wise Athena and her HuMum, Marie.

Mummy decided that since this horrid virus is affecting the Whole, Wide World - and, in the process, proving what a small world it really is - We would use the Tiny World effect from LunaPic.

We wonder if maybe the Virus was sent by the Great Cat in the Sky to test Us and see if We can learn to work Together, to defeat it. What do you think?

Meanwhile, keep well, look after yourselves - and look after your Humans.
And remember - if We stick together, and look out for one another, We CAN beat this thing.

May the Great Cat in the Sky watch over you and bless you all.

That is a lovely selfie!
Our scientists have said that Covid 19 does not cross between humans and their pets so hopefully that is right. I hope the wet markets of China are permanently banned as apart from spreading diseases they are very cruel.
We are being careful and keeping contact with others to as little as possible as we are both in the higher risk group with health problems as well as age.
We still have to get the fresh food shop once a week but are being as careful as possible. If others do the same we can beat this!
Best wishes to all of you.

That's a terrific selfie!

Here in Canada there are over 200 cases now, but *so far* only one death I think, an elderly person in a nursing home on the west coast. Our Prime Minister's wife was in the UK recently, though, and tested positive on her return. The PM is self-isolating, for obvious reasons. Our elementary and secondary schools are closed for 3 weeks now, and post-secondary undergrad classes are cancelled for this upcoming week, after which students will finish their courses online. Lots of concerts, plays at our theatre, etc. have been cancelled too.

I'm reasonably healthy (I hope), but I take public transit daily and definitely am paranoid about that. I'm super-conscious of washing my hands umpteen times a day and NOT touching my face!

On the flip side, if a person gets it (a mild/moderate case, I mean, not life-threatening), you will have your own immunity to it after you recover, not have to wait a year for a vaccine.

It's just scary. I'll be 56 soon, and even with SARS back in 2003, I don't remember this level of panic. It feels like the world has gone mad.

All the more reason to enjoy Sunday Selfies and to cuddle our kitties!

Purrs from Derry to you all; stay healthy and safe!

Love your selfie. Don't worry about the virus but make sure your Mummy has bought in lots of extra treats for you. xx

We don't like this nasty virus at all. Mom heard that Israel had made a breakthrough for a vaccine. We hope so.

The Conscious Cat shared an article by a research lab that has determined that pets do NOT spread this virus - good news!

You are very brave to be the Securikitty at your home sweetie!

Thank you, Shimshi, for patrolling and being on alert about the virus. Our humans' companies are working from home. Our dad works in New York, and his company has gone remote for the time being. We like having him home, so we can better supervise. :) Stay healthy, sweet pals. - Gracie and Ava

Besides being a wonderful selfie of your majestic self, you prove to be a very wise prince indeed. Mrs H believes strongly that this will only be solved by folks working together and being friends too.
Of course, I'm guessing there are more than a few that would rather not help a neighbour and keep all the good stuff hand sanitizer and what not to themselves!
Lots of safe purrs

We have a stupid Prime Minister (Boris Johnson) who hasn't a clue what he's doing here. Schools are still open and we are not on lockdown like most other countries.

Your art is purrfect for this scary time.

Stay safe x

It's a scary time for us all. Shimshi...while it's nice of you to go hunting for viruses, we hope you don't find any.

I can't believe how greedy and selfish some people have become. They are buying all the food and not thinking about those on limited incomes, or those in the 'gig' economy on zero hours contracts desperate to scrape enough together for basic essentials day to day.

I hope you keep well and remain safe where you are. Happy Sunday Selfies :-)

Everything I've seen from the American Vet Med Association and other testing places say that cats and dogs DO NOT get covid-19. They also believe they DO NOT TRANSMIT the virus. That's really good news for our furry friends. But you keep looking for that virus, and keep your mom safe from it!
