Possum's Last Will and Testament

Greetings, Fellow Felines - and Woofies and Humans as well!

This is the Last Will and Testament of Me, Felinemarshall Sir Possum MagnifiCatus, KCB (Knight of the Cat Blogosphere).

By the time you read this, I shall be at the Rainbow Bridge with my sisfur, Pixie, who flew away almost ten months ago.

As you will know, from reading my Mummy's reports, I have been feeling ever so tired and old for quite a while now, and very much in need of the kind of rest one can only get at the Bridge. I have been trying to tell Mummy this, at least from Rosh Hashana, but it took her a long time to accept what I was saying. When she did, she tried everything in her power to make me change my mind, including manhandling Me and feeding me by force - but I'm not angry with her. I understand. She loves Me so very much and it was very, very hard for her to let Me go. It was the same with Pixie, of course.

It was hard for me, too, to make the decision to leave for the Bridge. I love Mummy very much and I knew her heart would break. Pixie has been whispering in my ear for several weeks, telling Me it was Time and that she was waiting for Me, but I told Pixie that I couldn't leave Mummy all alone, she's only a Human and she can't possibly manage without a kitty to take care of her. But I was so very, very tired. I just couldn't keep going anymore. I think Mummy finally understood that last night, and this morning, she decided the Time had come to respect my Wishes and let Me go.

So now, I want to ask all my friends - and Mummy's - to continue to visit Mummy once in a while, here on this Blog, even after I'm gone, to comfort her and not let her feel all alone. She is going to be grieving for a long while. I know she's been thinking that maybe she won't get another kitty, because We don't live as long as Humans and the thought of having to go through all this heartache again some day is very terrible. But I know too that, deep in her heart, she knows that Love and Loss are bound up together, that you can't have the one without the other, and that it's better to have a kitty to love and to share her life with - even if, some day in the future, she has to face the Pain of Parting once more - than never again to know the devoted love of a furbaby.

So now, I want to ask you, Mummy, when the Time is right and Pixie and I whisper in your ear that we've found the right kitty (or kitties) for you, that you listen to Us and open your heart once more. There are so many kitties in need of a Fur-Ever Home, and there is no-one better capable of giving them one, full of Love. Both Pixie and I had a Wonderful Life with you and we want to know that you are honouring our Memory by giving a wonderful life to the kitty (or kitties) we shall send you.

I love you, Mummy. I shall be watching over you from the Rainbow Bridge, together with Pixie, and Minxie Who Went Before, until it's Time for you to come and collect Us.

Yours Fur-ever,

Possum the MagnifiCat

My beloved Possum departed for the Rainbow Bridge at 11:50 this morning, October 21st, 2012. My heart is broken.
Fly free, my precious little one. We shall meet again, someday, beyond the Rainbow.

Your friends will still be here, still missing Sweet Pixie and her Sweet Brofur.

We came over because of a message from Katie Isabella's Mom, that you needed some comforting. Please know that so many in the cat blogosphere understand the deep loss and sadness you are feeling, but that Possum is now free and energetic at the Rainbow Bridge.

Shimona, I'm so sorry, I'm in tears reading this. It reminds me so much of my beloved Annie's last weeks and passing. I'm sorrier than I can say. Please never second guess yourself, as I have done. You did all you could for Possum, but All Beings have their time to cross and so sadly, it was his.

Please let yourself grieve as you need, for however long. I would say it's taken a good year and a half for me to really feel easier in my mind about Annie's loss, as it did with me when Chumley passed too. Only Annie's was harder in so many ways, because there just wasn't anything obviously wrong with her...or the vet and I missed things. I don't know, I'll never know.

So I wish you peace in your heart, knowing you gave Possum the best life he ever could have, that you loved him heart and soul and that is what is most important.

And please try to remember that all the holes in our hearts are to let the Light shine through.

Hugs and Blessings, and godspeed to Possum.

I learned about this on Katie's blog. I am so sorry to hear of your loss, and am sure you are grieving terribly. When our late Hemingway left for the Bridge in 2007, after his sister Margo had departed in 2005, we were very sad because we had no kitties at all. However, later in 2007, Hemingway and Margo whispered in our ears that we should go to the area animal shelter. Gracie was waiting thre for us, and we adopted her. And now we have Millie as well. I am sure that someday before long, there will be another kitty for you.

I'm sending you a big hug. I knew you would know when it was time. You did the best you could. Give yourself time to remember.

It took me about three months to get over losing my Sweet Bella. Not that I'm over her but I don't cry anymore.

Thus, the big hug going to you, cause you need it so.

Find comfort in their memories and the love they gave and your gave back.

Diamond wouldn't eat on the last day. The vet told me that he would not have been able to absorb water or food anyway, as his organs were shutting down. Perhaps that was happening with Possum.
I can sympathize with you on losing an only cat, as I am going through that at the moment.
It is probably best that you get another kitty, especially if you are about to retire, as they provide such joy in our lives and there isn't much point in making oneself suffer for no reason.
best wishes,
Lynettea

Dear Shimona....We don't know you but that hardly matters - what DOES matter is your grief at losing your Possum. We read of this on Katie Isabella's blog this morning and wanted to tell you how sad we are for you. It's ever so hard to say goodbye...and it sounds as if Possum really didn't WANT to go as much as it was simply his time - to join Pixie - for the two of them to wait together for you to join them one day. Meanwhile we hope you will listen for them to whisper in your ear that it's time to get another companion for that bond and that love is something that once known, can never be forgotten.....never.

Special Hugs,
Pam (and Sammy)

Possum was right. Take another cat, it is not betrayal, it is simply pursuing a new story. This is to give love another cat to get better. The departure of Feline broke my heart. She was my first cat really me. She shared my joys, my sorrows, my life for 15 years. Gospel and Gribouil when they arrived, they did not fill the void left by Feline. They got a place next. I kept my love for Feline Gosepl and Gribouil but also needed love. I knew I could give them this love without betraying and not forgetting my Feline.

Cats are always advised friends very good advice. We always win in wisdom if we listen.
Big kisses to you Shimona
